Book review: I actually like to read children’s books because they are normally shorter and then I don’t have to worry about inappropriate content. Also, since I work as a Home Health nurse, I spend a lot of time in my car and I want to read still. I tend to listen to a lot of audiobooks. My son, J2 and I have been listening to this book for the past few days. I thought it had an interesting blurb and since my son is homeschooled, thought he might like it as well. Now, I will say that their way of homeschooling would never fly in my home but I guess it worked for them. I loved Jake and E.D. I often wondered if they would become friends but by the end of the book, I wasn’t sure what they were… more like siblings I guess. Then also, all the different types of characters were quite hilarious. I loved the growth of the butterflies and Jake in sync. That underlying theme was very neat. Although there was no inappropriate scenes in the book, it does have a 13 year old smoking, using a lighter, and it suggests swearing multiple times but doesn’t actually say the words. Now, I am pretty sure the father said a swear once. Other than that, the book did a great job staying on a kids level. I was sad that only one of the books was on audiobook and will likely now have to rent them from the Library. I would lump this book into books like Bridge to Terabithia, Because of Winn Dixie, and similar.
