This morning I decided to get some initiative and sat down on my bed to trim the doggies toe nails. Don’t get me wrong, I love my dogs but they do not like me to trim the toenails. My dogs are not little by any means. Chino-chocolate lab weighs approximately 105 lbs. and his “little” wifey Lady-Yellow lab, weighs in at 90 lbs. Now, at some point in Chino’s life he became scared of getting his nails trimmed. So we usually have to sedate and muzzle him to go to the vet to get them done. But Lady does fine. So today I broke out the handy dandy toenail trimmers for doggies and called my first victim to the room. Lady jumped onto my bed and I rubbed her down and scratched her belly and then preceded to trim all her nails without any concerns. She in fact started to fall asleep prior to me finishing the job. She was a normal girl at the nail salon,
AND THEN IT WAS CHINO’S TURN!!!
Let me begin by saying that I am pretty sure Chino has the doggy form of ADHD as well as that he might have been dropped on his head as a puppy. Remember in the movie UP where the dog was all like… SqUiRrEL! Yeah, that is Chino. So I let Lady get off the bed and call Chino in the room and he comes trotting over. I should probably add that my bed is very high and so it does take some effort for the dogs to jump into it. I give him the normal command for him to jump up on the bed and he does. But doesn’t of course make it all the way on the bed, his large rear end is hanging off the side and he is preceding to jump kangaroo style trying to get his butt up to the bed. My nephew finally lists him the rest of the way unto to the bed where he preceded to roll on top of me to show me his love.
After finally calming the psycho mutt down, I begin to give him a rub down and then gradually work to his paws so that I can cut his nails. I actually was able to complete the right front paw without even so much as a wimper and then out of the blue he goes all Dr. Jekyll, Mr.Hyde on me. He jumps up and gets all excited, runs around the bed, eyes all big, really wanting to play. I have to call his name several times to get him to understand I am not wanting to play but clip his nails and be done with it. So I finally get him back to where I can cut his nails again, I grab his left front paw and he goes all wonky again. After three failed attempts and the dog finally starting to get upset and me as well starting to get upset I gave up. I never did get to cut any of the rest of his nails.
So, my story wasn’t super funny but it was just an average day of trying to get something done in my life.
